Panchang (पंचांग) — the five limbs of the Hindu day
Panchang literally means "five limbs". It is the Vedic system that describes any given day through five astronomical factors: Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), Yoga (Sun-Moon combination), Karana (half-tithi), and Vaar (the day of the week). Together these five factors decide what the day is good for and what it is not. Sunrise, sunset and the Rahu Kaal hours are derived from the Sun’s position at your specific location.
Indian families have used Panchang for centuries to plan everything from a child’s naming ceremony and the day a new business opens, to choosing an auspicious time for a wedding muhurat.
