Why these 6 houses?
Houses 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 and 12 govern self, family, home, marriage, longevity and bed/intimacy. Mars's fiery nature is said to disturb harmony in these specific areas.
Cancellations are real
Classical texts list seven cancellation conditions. A Mars in Mesha or Vrishchika, or aspected by Jupiter, behaves very differently from a generic Manglik Mars.
Severity matters

Traditional astrology holds that Mars's combative energy — placed in houses governing self, family, home, marriage, longevity and intimacy — can introduce friction in marriage.
A modern, balanced reading always considers cancellation factorsbefore declaring severity. Mars in its own sign (Mesha or Vrishchika), exaltation in Capricorn, friendly placement (7th in Cancer/Capricorn, 8th in Sagittarius/Pisces, 12th in Taurus/Libra), Yogakaraka status for Cancer or Leo Lagna, and Jupiter's aspect on Mars — any one of these can cancel the dosha. When both partners are Manglik, the doshas cancel each other.
